The "Hoidaweg" refers to an old tradition: the guardian, the "Hoida", drove the animals out to pasture here. Today, you can "learn to read" the landscape at various stations along the themed trail, with many interactive play elements and a small exhibition in the "LEBENsWELT - Geschichte und Begegnung" wooden hut.
Here we can see the development of the cultural landscape around Harbach and the settlements embedded in it, some of which are over 800 years old. Man and nature have shaped each other over many generations. An abundance of wood, quartz deposits, a special climate and plenty of water have made productive agriculture and forestry possible, and with glass production and the glass cutting factories still in operation today, a trade with very special products.
Today, the Waldviertel-South Bohemian cultural landscape no longer has a dividing line and together they form one of the most attractive natural, cultural and health regions in Europe!
Make sure when choosing your route that it matches your fitness level. Check whether the hospitality businesses you want to visit along the way are open. Pack your charged mobile phone and map material in your backpack.
Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, map material, if necessary telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water)
The theme route starts at Steinbrunnerhof in Lauterbach, opposite the volunteer fire brigade, and leads you past the children's playground towards the chapel. Always follow the distinctive "Shepherd's Hat", which accompanies you along the entire route.
After a short downhill stretch, keep right and walk along the "Hoidagossn." Past an impressive spruce, impressive rock formations, and agricultural fields. Soon you will come past the wooden hut, which with a small exhibition "LEBENsWELT - History and Encounter" on display panels presents the history of the villages on both sides of the border, and in particular the development of the 50-year-old large municipality Moorbad Harbach, both in German and Czech languages! About halfway, you can take a small break at the Gasthaus zur Holzmühle or (by appointment) visit the "World of Pets - Pets of the World." The path continues past the beautiful Waldviertel nature and other stations of the theme route. Before you reach the starting point again, you can take a stroll through the beautifully designed "Garden of Human Rights."
