Moaßlaweg - Nr. 22

Route characteristics: 50% asphalt, 30% forest road, 20% forest trail

Start at the free parking lot at the Märchenhotel Waldpension Nebelstein and hike downhill to the curve, then follow the guardrail and pass the “Zeit nehmen” relaxation area with its cozy hanging lounger. Cross the street and continue downhill along the edge of the forest on the trail until you reach the farmhouse. Pass the house on your right to reach the stone bridge over the Hirschenwiesbach, then follow the path slightly uphill to the paved road. To the right, over the hilltop and back downhill, the road stretches like an avenue to an intersection. Now, following the gravel road, you’ll pass the natural swimming pond and the Holzmühle inn. Crossing the inn’s parking lot, you’ll reach the road again; cross it and keep to the right at the old Loam bowling alley, then immediately turn left onto a small dirt road. Here, the path leads past the sports field. The dirt path rejoins the paved road at two isolated houses; follow the road to the left. A small forest provides shade before you turn right onto the country road. After about 400 m, you’ll see a hut with a barbecue area and a small pond on your left. You should take a short break there and read the legend of the “Steinern Weib.”
Then follow the road up the hill and take the right fork on the road toward Roßbruck.
After about 300 m, turn right onto the dirt road. Now begins the most scenic part of the hike, past meadows and fields. You’ll walk slightly downhill until the trail forks. Here, keep to the right and head into the high forest. Another fork—now take the smaller, more mystical path to the left. The trail becomes a bit more challenging and forks again after a short climb. Continue straight ahead; the trail levels out and a forest floor covered in pine needles spreads out before you. The forest begins to thin out; you’ll reach the first houses of Maißen and follow the paved road to the right, passing the welcome stone and the Maißen town sign. Going straight down a small hill and across the intersection, you’ll enter the village; on your right, the Moaßla-Stüberl invites you to stop for a break. Continue another 400 meters, and you’ll see the Märchenhotel Waldpension Nebelstein appear on your left at the edge of town.
