A cross-border bike tour through the Waldviertel and South Bohemia via the Mandelstein.
The cross-border Via Verde Mandelstein (approx. 26 km) connects the Waldviertel region with South Bohemia and leads to the striking summit of the Mandelstein. This varied bike tour winds through unspoiled landscapes along the Green Belt, offering impressive views and cultural attractions. The route takes riders over challenging climbs through the towns of Moorbad Harbach, Unserfrau-Altweitra, Nové Hrady, and Horní Stropnice, offering numerous places to stop for refreshments along the way.
When choosing a route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your cell phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border tours, please always carry a passport or ID card with you.
We recommend: a helmet, appropriate clothing and footwear, rain and sun protection, a first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food and drinks (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).
The route is mostly on asphalt; the remaining sections are also easily rideable on a touring bike.

From Moorbad Harbach, the Via Verde Mandelstein leads via Sejby and Veveří to Nové Hrady. There, the historic old town, as well as the palace and castle, invite you to take a cultural break. The route then continues back into the Waldviertel region via the Phyrabruck border crossing to Heinrichs bei Weitra. A special highlight of the tour is Mandelstein, which rewards visitors with impressive views of the vast landscape before the route leads back to the starting point in Moorbad Harbach.
